March 18, 2019, the No. 2 Unit of Thar Power Station Phase-I Project reached its stable speed of 3000 rpm. From rotating to speed stabilization, every parameter was excellent. And subsequent generator grid-connection, initial loading and overspeed test were all achieved right the first time.
The Thar Power Station Phase-I Project in Pakistan is one of the priority development projects tailored for “the Belt and Road”initial, as well as the promotion the construction of the China-Pakistani Economic Corridor. In November 2014 and April 2015, the prime ministers and heads of state of Pakistan and China witnessed the signing of its Financing Framework Agreement and the Loan Agreement respectively. The Thar Power Station Phase-I project is also the first coal and electricity integration project under the China-Pakistani Economic Corridor.
The Thar Power Station Phase-I Project is located in Islambotoc, 450km southeast of Karachi. This power plant is mainly built on THAR COAL PROJECT, a large-scaled coal mine. The developer of the project is Engro Company of Pakistan. Dongfang Electric Corporation supplied optimized subcritical, single reheating, two cylinders with two exhausting, single shaft and condensing steam turbines and their auxiliary equipment.
The Turbine islands and plant of No. 1 and No. 2 Units of Thar Power Station were handed over for installation in November 2017. It took only one year to install and commission the units. The successful commissioning of Thar Thar Power Station Phase-I Project has effectively promoted the development of local energy resources, which will greatly increase the well-being of local people in Pakistan. At the same time, it has opened a new train of thought and new mode of China-Pakistan energy cooperation. The project has led to tremendous changes in the Thar region.
